About the Schönenberger Family

​

Schönenberger is a Protestant family from the Toggenburg / St. Gallen, where the frist representatives are documented in the records of Kirchberg since the 15th century. Andreas Schönenberger (about 1575-1642) is the founder of the Glarus line and bought 1609 the Allmeindrecht (common land rights) in Mitlödi. The family belonged to the so-called Neulandleute (citizens from outside Glarus with limited civil rights) who received the civil rights of the State Glarus in 1834.
